What matters for a garage in Brisbane
Brisbane is one of the few councils where the siting rules themselves change with lot size. On lots under 450 m² the Dwelling house (small lot) code in City Plan prevails over the Queensland Development Code, and if a garage cannot meet the standard setbacks, the certifier can lodge a referral asking Council for alternative provisions.
In the Traditional building character overlay and neighbourhood plan areas, Brisbane can refer Class 10 work for amenity and aesthetics assessment. A steel garage beside a Queenslander can pass easily when its roof pitch, colours and position are chosen with that in mind.
