How Sunshine Coast shapes a shed project

Sunshine Coast Council gives unusually specific numbers for residential sheds. To comply with the Dwelling House Code, a shed in a residential zone must not exceed 3.6 m in height or 56 m² of total floor area, and must be at least 6 m from the road frontage. Bigger or closer than that and Council assessment or a referral may be needed.

On hinterland acreage around Maleny, Mapleton and Kenilworth, Council requires rural and rural-residential outbuildings to stay clear of overland flow paths and flood hazard areas. With rainfall well over 1,500 mm a year on parts of the coast and range, drainage is a design input, not an afterthought.

Noosa Shire Council applies the Noosa Plan 2020, whose flood overlay maps land affected by a modelled 1% AEP flood for the year 2100, including storm tide. Along the Noosa River that can move a shed site.
