The coast is the first thing that shapes a Gold Coast shed. BlueScope classes Gold Coast beaches as 'surf' exposure and The Broadwater as 'exposed' salt water, and its technical guidance sets different minimum distances from breaking surf for roofing and walling materials. A garage a street back from the beach and one in the hinterland at Nerang are not specified the same way.
City of Gold Coast's no-approval rule for small garden sheds adds a condition the state summary leaves out: the shed must not be in the front or waterfront setback area. On a canal or beachfront lot, that setback often decides where anything can go.
