Things to get right
Minimum parking sizes
The Queensland Housing Code's Table 5 sets minimum internal garage spaces of 3 m wide by 6 m deep for a single (3.2 m wide where level-entry access runs through the garage) and 5.5 m by 6 m for a double. Those are minimums, not comfortable sizes.
Design vehicles
The B99 design car in AS/NZS 2890.1 is 5.20 m long and 1.94 m wide; a B85 car is 4.91 m by 1.87 m. Utes and large 4WDs are longer than both.
Caravan height
Caravans can legally be up to 2.5 m wide and 4.3 m high, so measure your van (including the air conditioner) before choosing the door and eave height.
Approval for garages
In Queensland a shed avoids building approval only if it is 10 m² or less in plan area, no more than 2.4 m high (mean 2.1 m) with no side over 5 m, and not in Wind Region C. A garage almost always needs building approval, and a garage close to a boundary has to meet the siting rules or go to council for a referral. Requirements depend on your property, proposed structure and local planning/building controls.

Garages: common questions
What size garage do I need for two cars?
The Queensland Housing Code minimum for a double garage is 5.5 m wide by 6 m deep internally, but that is a minimum. Allow more width if you want to open doors fully and walk between the cars, and more depth for a bench or storage.
How high does a caravan garage need to be?
Measure the van at its highest point, including the air conditioner and any aerials, then add clearance for the door mechanism. Caravans can legally be up to 4.3 m high, so a standard garage door height is often not enough.
