Tamborine Mountain combines North Tamborine, Mount Tamborine and Eagle Heights: a plateau of houses on large blocks surrounded by rainforest escarpment.
Building a shed in Tamborine Mountain
Scenic Rim's planning scheme maps much of the mountain inside a landslide hazard area, and parts of Mount Tamborine are also in the steep slope overlay. A shed there may need overlay assessment and geotechnical input, so we check the lot before settling the size and position.
The same areas sit in the bushfire hazard buffer, which can bring bushfire construction requirements for a shed close to the house. Rainfall is heavy too, averaging about 1,570 mm a year at the Mt Tamborine Fern Street station, around twice the Darling Downs figure, so gutters and drainage are sized accordingly.
More than nine in ten dwellings on the mountain are separate houses. Council describes the area as a 'productive green sanctuary', and rural land on the mountain sits in its own Tamborine Mountain Rural precinct.
