Mooloolaba is a beachfront suburb of units, canals and a working boat harbour, so most shed work here is compact garages, carports and boat storage close to salt water.

Fewer than four in ten Mooloolaba homes are separate houses; almost half are flats or apartments. Where there is a house block, space is tight, and a single or double garage or a carport has to be sited carefully against the boundary rules.
The Mooloolah River meets the sea between Mooloolaba and Point Cartwright, and BoM lists storm surge as a major flood risk in the lower catchment. The council is replacing a 290 m stretch of the 1960s seawall on the foreshore under its coastal hazard strategy. Salt spray and surge are the two things we design around here.
The local plan keeps the slopes behind Alexandra Headland and the streets around Mooloolaba Waters low-rise, and sets aside the State Boat Harbour for waterfront and marine industry, which is where commercial marine sheds belong.
