Caloundra is the southern Sunshine Coast: an older beach town with holiday units at its core and some of the region's biggest new communities to the south.

The suburb had a median age of 58 in 2021, 48.1% of dwellings were apartments and over a quarter were empty on census night, a holiday-home pattern.
