Note the Queensland rules before you plan to build one yourself: owner-builders can't build farm buildings, and a farm building valued over $27,500 must be built by a licensed contractor. What you organise
A kit leaves these with you or your builder. Ask us about any of them.
- ApprovalBuilding approval before work starts, unless the shed is exempt. We can prepare the documents if you'd like help.
- Slab or footingsBuilt to the kit's engineering and your site's soil classification.
- Site access and unloadingA clear, firm track for the delivery truck and a way to unload the bundles.
- Crew, tools and liftingAt least two capable people, plus lifting equipment for the frames.
- Safe work at heightFall protection above 3 m on housing construction (2 m on other construction) and on roofs steeper than 26°.

Farm shed kits: common questions
Can I put up a farm shed kit myself?
Only for smaller farm buildings. Under the QBCC rules, work on a farm building valued at no more than $27,500 is not building work; above that, a licensed contractor must build it, and owner-builder permits don't cover farm buildings.
Does a farm shed kit need approval?
A Class 10 building on agricultural land is exempt from building approval if no part is within 200 m of a road or boundary. Otherwise, it normally needs approval.
Can you install the farm shed instead?
Yes. We supply and install farm sheds under a QBCC Builder – Open licence.
