Bribie Island is a relaxed island community linked to the mainland by the 1963 bridge, with Bongaree on the Pumicestone Passage side and surf beaches on the other.

Bongaree's median age is 67 and more than half its homes are owned outright, so garages, carports for caravans and boats, and small workshop sheds are the typical requests.
The island's coast is moving. Waves from ex-Cyclone Seth cut a new channel through northern Bribie in January 2022, and the Queensland Government has measured the eastern shoreline there receding one to two metres a year. Queensland's erosion-prone areas are calculated with 0.8 m of sea-level rise, so we check where your lot sits before siting a shed.
Salt air reaches the whole island, from the surf beaches and from the Passage. That decides the cladding, the screws and the flashings, and the Bribie Island Alert station's roughly 1,420 mm of annual rain decides the gutters. Construction access is still over the two-lane bridge, while a new one is in design.
